Science comics

This collection, developed by The University of the West of England, contains ten comics and investigations related to materials and their properties. They are designed to promote the teaching of scientific enquiry in an engaging and inventive way. Follow central character Selenia from an alien planet where they use magic to change the properties of materials. When she starts secondary school she finds an ancient book which allows her to leave her planet and travel to Earth. On Earth, Selenia is invisible so she causes all sorts of problems by changing the properties of materials. Followed by her head teacher, Mrs Neon, Selenia and her friends build a time machine and travel around the World having adventures and learning about science. Selenia needs help to carry out investigations to help her along the way. These all focus on an element of scientific enquiry including; planning a fair test, predicting, recording, evaluating evidence and communicating ideas. Though designed to be read in order to tell a complete story, the investigations could be carried out when teaching appropriate topics within the curriculum.
