Maths in a Suitcase

Maths in a Suitcase is part problem-solving road show and part maths lab.

Maths in a Suitcase will transform your hall into an exciting vibrant space with over 35 different mathematical tasks and investigations suitable for all ages and abilities.

Maths in a Suitcase is a maths master class for the whole school. The tasks and investigations explore a whole range of mathematical ideas and concepts, including: “big” numbers, numerical sequences, reflection & symmetry, 2D and 3D tessellating, problem-solving, geometry, shape and space, generalising and specialising, etc.

It provides hands on experiments and activities that are suitable for a wide age range – for Key Stage 1 through to Key Stage 2. Everything is designed to be accessible at some level to everyone regardless of age, ability, experience or gender. In addition, each session begins with a demonstrations tailored to each group’s needs and abilities The hands on style ensure the exhibits attract, immediately engage and to extend - everyone gets to participate.

Depending on the school timetable it should be possible to fit in five or six sessions in the day.

Maths is not just numbers.   Maths in a Suitcase puts a positive “spin” on Maths.

Children immediately engage with the maths behind the problems.

The activities reveal the breadth and the beauty of mathematics.

For staff, it is an opportunity to observe their children in a different learning environment. This occasionally highlights different learning styles that may inform future teaching methods.
