Schools on Reserves at RSPB Old Moor

Royal Society for the Protection of Birds

Take your pupils learning outside of the classroom with an unforgettable visit to RSPB Old Moor nature reserve to discover and investigate the natural world. Our wetland nature reserve is an oasis for wildlife in a post mining urban landscape.

Your pupils will become young scientists for the day and will be encouraged to investigate nature, work in teams, find answers to their own questions and share their discoveries through hands-on practical activities in a variety of habitats.

We offer a range of educational workshops, from pond studies and minibeast investigations to seasonal sensory walks and finding out about the life of birds. Workshops are suitable for EYFS, KS1, 2 and 3 and support cross curricular learning.

Expected outcomes

A memorable and engaging day for your students spent outdoors in nature. Achieving curriculum-linked learning objectives outdoors and gaining a better understanding and appreciation of the fascinating creatures and habitats in the Dearne Valley.
