A Lesson on Shapes

In this Teachers TV video, Year Two teacher Pritti Poole engages students by beginning her mathematics lesson on shapes with a game. Pritti then splits the class into ability groups for the main activities. Students draw and record shapes with right angles, make 3D shapes and sort pictures into straight and curved edges. Before the lesson, the teacher describes her aims and afterwards she evaluates the lesson. As part of the Uncut Classrooms series, the entire lesson is recorded and shown unedited, providing a resource which would be technically difficult for schools to produce. Intended to help develop classroom observation skills, the picture is split between the views from two cameras, one following the teacher and the other showing the whole classroom.
