Inside STEM careers: research into plant pollinators

Produced by Science & Plants for Schools (SAPS), these materials look at the work of plant research scientist, Beverley Glover. Through activities based around plant adaptations, students gain a greater understanding of the career opportunities available in plant biology.

Beverley Glover is a lecturer and research scientist at the University of Cambridge. She has a special interest in how flowers attract insects to pollinate them.

The activities described in the materials look at topics that include:
* behavioural and physiological adaptations of organisms to their environments
* adaptation, diversity and selection as major components of evolution

The materials contain full teacher guidance and student information sheets. These cover:
* career case study and questions
* visible light, infra red and ultraviolet wavelenghts of radiation and how plants attract pollinators
* investigation into the factors that attract insect pollinators to flowers
