Future Morph: Weather Forecaster

In this Future Morph video, TV weather forecaster Chris Fawkes talks about how computer-generated models of the atmosphere are used in weather forecasting and how the models compare with actual measurements. Chris describes how the models give a range of detailed predictions and how these are used, along with observations from weather stations, to produce the weather forecast we see on television. In the related activity students explore air pressure before investigating how a barometer works.

An associated resources booklet, which can be found in the Introduction to Future Morph Resources organises the videos into themes, provides an overview of the teachers’ notes, describes practical activities and suggests cross-curricular links.

Although this resource was created in 2008 as part of the Future Morph project run by the Science Council and the resources date from this time, it is still relevant and useful today.
