A fun and interactive evidence based programme to engage children in their own health, self care and the using the health service.


Summary

Pharmacy Schools Programme. This innovative teaching resource, includes teaching plans and resources for Primary 1 – Primary 7 to support delivery of Personal Development and Mutual Understanding Area of learning of the Northern Ireland Curriculum. It raises awareness of self-care and community pharmacy services for common childhood ailments such as common colds, diarrhoea, hay fever, head lice and sore throats. Attendance at both days is required for the bursary and participants will be required to carry out a gap task.

Outcomes

Participants will:

  • Inform and Educate - Be aware of the Pharmacy Schools Programme to support delivery of curriculum including Personal Development and Mutual Understanding (PDMU) and World Around Us, for Foundation Stage, Key Stage 1 & 2.
  • Teach health literacy skills - Identify baseline understanding on self care and health services, who can help us in our community and current level of health literacy.
  • Support behaviour change - Identify suitable resources within programme to enable continued conversation at home on health literacy, community pharmacy services, medication safety, hand hygiene.
  • Sharing learning - Explore options for showcasing learning as a whole school event or within the community, creating links to pharmacy and retail.
