Summary

An increasing number of business sites use databases to store data and produce dynamic webpages. PHP and mySQL are a cost-effective but powerful solution to building database driven websites which can be developed on Windows and deployed on either Windows or Unix(Linux)servers. This course does not cover the PHP language itself in great depth but concentrates on getting up and running with the mySQL database, using
PHP as the server-side control. It is a powerful tool for any developer to have at their disposal.

Topics covered include:
- structure and syntax
- array types
- sorting arrays
- escape sequences
- conditional decision making
- embedding PHP in Web pages
- mathematical functions
- why write your own functions
- basic OOP
- why use a database: the three-tier architecture approach
- connecting to the database

This course is recommended for developers who need to grasp the latest PHP coding conventions and techniques. All the examples are based around the Object Oriented nature of PHP 5.x and best practice is encouraged throughout.

No previous PHP experience is required, but a good understanding of HTML and CSS will help you get the most from this course. No Javascript or SQL experience is expected, but we do include basic SQL queries and short Javascripts within the main course delivery.
