Summary
A packed day of CPD designed to meet the needs of all, it includes workshops aimed at developing teaching and learning, improving subject knowledge and exploring a range of strategies to promote literacy and numeracy development within science.
The keynote speaker, David Shakespeare, will explore ‘Motivating students in science lessons – is it what you do, or the way that you do it?’ in a hands on start to the day.

- Running a STEM Club: Getting started
- Enhancing literacy in science – words, sentences and extended writing
- Supporting disadvantaged students in the new framework
- Maths in Science
- Effective exam preparation: Metacognition and modelling
- Working Scientifically in the new Physics GCSE, Chemistry GCSE or Biology GCSE
You will be able to:
- Conveying enthusiasm and developing self-awareness as a science teacher
- Use a range of strategies to encourage extended writing in science
- Develop subject knowledge and pedagogical approaches to teaching maths in science
- Identify the skills underpinning core practicals in the new GCSE, developing KS4 knowledge and teaching approaches
- Understand a range of strategies to stretch and challenge students to maximise progress
- Gain awareness of the STEM opportunities available locally through the STEM Ambassador hub
- Network and establish links with colleagues across the region
This CPD is bursary funded, after the conference has been attended maintained schools will receive a bursary payment of £75 per delegate.
