Summary

After over 20 years in the classroom as a biology teacher, KS3/KS4 Science Coordinator, Head of Post-16 Biology and training manager responsible for coordinating ITT, NQT induction and whole staff CPD, Pat joined Sheffield Hallam University in 2008 where she is currently the course leader for PGCE sciences.

Drawing upon her wealth of experience both in schools and in teaching training, Pat will give a talk aimed at ITT students and Early Career teachers to give them top tips on how to do well in their first school placements/first year in school.  In addition, she will highlight what ITT students and ECTs should expect from their school in terms of support, and the emotions they may experience during the first few months and how to deal with them.  After the presentation there will be an opportunity to join in a discussion with Pat and other attendees to share ideas. Much of the talk is applicable to all ITT students and ECTs, however it will be focussed on secondary Science.
