Summary

The conference involves a full day of guidance and support for science technicians including a keynote speech and a choice of workshop sessions across the sciences.

Workshops include:

  • SAPS, biology practicals that work, including pondweed and red peppers. 
  • Little practicals 
  • Data Harvest experiments
  • New equipment - We will be sharing and demonstrating the use of some new science equipment we have purchased this year. Please feel free to bring any new equipment to demonstrate.
  • How do I use this piece of equipment? - An opportunity to bring any equipment that you are not sure about how to use
  • Required practicals- A chance to carry out some RPs and to discuss common issues and solutions 
  • STEM club ideas and resources
  • Ideas for science week
  • An introduction to STEM Learning and all the resources and opportunities on offer
  • Technician surgery!- A chance to discuss current problems associated with your role and to share possible solutions

Who is the course leader?

Outcomes

Work towards successfully implementing the new skills and knowledge acquired. Describe and apply policies, procedures and actions that will lead to an effective and efficient technical service. Describe and explain safety implications and how to address them.
