Summary

 

We will explore strategies for teaching topics across the biology curriculum and develop an understanding of how practical work can be made more relevant and effective. There will be hands-on opportunities to explore interesting and creative approaches to new and familiar practical techniques using a range of resources, publications and ICT applications to make students learning more effective.

We will look at materials for curriculum planning and concept development including Best Evidence Science Teaching and consider how to modify practicals to engage students of all abilities.

You will be able to:

  • develop an understanding of the nature, purpose and importance of practical work in biology lessons
  • employ new and established practical strategies and techniques to teach biology effectively
  • plan how to incorporate these ideas into schemes of learning
