Summary

Transition between primary and secondary schools is a superb opportunity to promote continuity in subjects, there are many opportunities to explore computing as a subject, whilst bridging the gap and fostering relationships with local schools.

During this course, you will explore recent evidence on transition and its impact on students’ academic needs in terms of providing high-quality computing education and experiences. You will have the opportunity to consider how transition looks in your settings and highlight potential barriers and strategies to overcome them. Using case studies, the course allows for the consideration of best practices in the transition from KS2 to KS3.

You will have the opportunity to explore the new KS2–KS3 Transition Project, including a breakdown of how the sequence of lessons will work across the two phases, the technology used, and the benefits to students. You will consider how it can be delivered in your own school by collaborating with colleagues across primary and secondary settings to develop an action plan that you can take with you to initiate your transition project.
