Summary

A workshop for early career teachers of GCSE chemistry and teachers who aren’t chemistry specialists. This two-day workshop is designed specifically for teachers looking to enhance their skills and confidence in teaching complex chemistry calculations at GCSE. Through practical exercises and expert guidance, you'll learn how to determine the number of protons, neutrons, and electrons in atoms, isotopes, and ions. You'll also learn to write chemical formulas, calculate relative formula mass and write balanced chemical equations. You will gain skills in using titration data to calculate the unknown concentration of an acid or alkali, calculating the empirical formula and % composition by mass of organic molecules, and calculating energy changes in a chemical reaction from bond energies by considering bond making and bond breaking energies.
