Summary

This one-day conference is running in collaboration with Dorset County Council to address key priorities in post-16 science education. The keynote address by Steve Jones, Director of CLEAPSS, will address the key changes to practical work and its assessment and will explore approaches to best prepare students for examination-based assessment of practical skills. Workshop sessions will address key priorities including the increased mathematical demands for A-level, effective tracking and assessment, promoting independent learning and effective preparation for assessment of practical skills.  All four Awarding Organisations will be present and will run sessions on promoting and maintaining attainment at A-level.  During the plenary, you will have the opportunity to plan next steps in terms of support and to establish and run post-16 networks in the region.

Outcomes

You will be able to:

  • Plan effective strategies to prepare your students for the new A-level specifications
  • Address the key priorities of assessment of practical work skills and increased mathematical demand in the new A-level specifications
  • Consider strategies for promoting independent learning and stretch and challenge for able students
