Understand the requirements of the primary science curriculum and develop ideas to plan for excellent science lessons.


Summary

Teaching science during your first years in the primary classroom is exciting and also quite daunting. This course is designed specifically for those in the first 5 years of their teaching career, to build the confidence needed to plan and deliver effective and engaging science lessons.

We will provide support to help you to understand the requirements of the primary science curriculum, improve your subject knowledge and give you the tools you need to plan and teach excellent science lessons.

You will spend two days at the National STEM Centre in York, creating links with teachers across England. Then enjoy five hours of remote learning which is tailored to you to give you the best support for the start of your career.

Subsidy support is available. If you have a position lined up from September you can enter the name of your school into the fees & subsidies calculator to check the level of funding available to your school.

Outcomes

By the end of this course, you will be able to:

  • create a stimulating learning environment to support children’s learning, with the development of science enquiry skills at the heart
  • use highly effective strategies for teaching and learning in primary science, in areas such as assessment, behaviour and resource management
  • produce an action plan to implement and evaluate your learning journey

Notes

The first two days of this course are residential and the fees include meals and accommodation.
