Explore science concepts and areas of the technology curriculum to encourage science and technology skills in learners from early to second level.


Summary

Through hands-on practical activities we will explore STEM concepts in the context of Curriculum for Excellence. Participants will have the opportunity to develop and encourage STEM skills with learners from early to second level. Participants will be asked to report back on what they have taken from the course and further developed in their own schools.

Who is it for?

Primary Practitioners - Early, First and Second Level 

What topics are covered?

Earth's Materials. Properties of materials. Light, the biology of the eye and our senses. Chemical change and plant pigments. Science inquiry skills - observing and exploring, classifying, fair testing and finding an association. Construction technology skills and their application in the classroom. Magnets and magnetism.

You will be able to:

  • demonstrate increased confidence in the delivery of practical science and technology CfE Experiences and Outcomes
  • adapt ideas for use within their own contexts
  • identify opportunities for their own practice and produce an action plan for implementation.

  • increased opportunities for Science and Technology activities
  • increased opportunities for practical work.
