Making an impact in EYFS: A science subject leaders’ guide to developing good practice RP028

This course will help primary science subject leaders understand the complexities of the Early Years Foundation Stage and identify ways to support and develop teaching and learning in the context of ‘Understanding the World’.

Summary

A good understanding of how children learn science in the Early Years Foundation Stage is imperative for a primary science subject leader.  Engaging with the new EYFS framework will help develop understanding of the way teachers work in EYFS and exploration of the non-statutory guidance will further build a picture of the ways young children learn.  You will consider what good teaching and learning looks like in ‘Understanding the World’ and develop a clear progression map into Key Stage 1 that will help build strong foundations for science across the school. You will return to school with a wealth of ideas to share with EYFS colleagues, ensuring that children, in this important phase, start off with the very best learning experiences.

  • understand implications of the statutory and non-statutory guidance in EYFS
  • describe how children in EYFS learn
