Digital skills: computer-aided design (CAD) and modelling NC200

Develop your knowledge of CAD, during this one day course you’ll learn how to use both 2D and 3D CAD and explore cross-curricular links.

Summary

During this one day practical course, you’ll learn how to develop products using Computer Aided Design (CAD). You’ll get hands on experience from your experienced Professional Development Leader and develop a 3D product using specialist CAD software. Once you’ve created your prototype product, you’ll have the opportunity to turn your prototype into a printed 3D model. You’ll also learn how to develop a 2D product and explore how both 2D and 3D CAD fit within the curriculum.

With the increased demand for digital skills amongst your people, you’ll explore how the skills developed from CAD can be used cross-curricular, including programming and computational thinking, plus the wider STEM subjects.

Who is it for?

This one day course is suitable for D&T, computing and teachers from other subjects looking to integrate CAD within their curriculum.

What topics are covered?

  • Introduction to CAD – during this first session you’ll dive straight into learning what CAD is, how it’s used within industry and the importance of manufacturers using CAD.
  • Developing 2D and 3D products using CAD – using CAD software you’ll design your very own 2D and 3D products, before using a 3D printer to turn your 3D product into reality.
  • CAD skills cross-curricular – during this session you’ll explore the skills developed from designing your CAD products across other STEM curriculum areas.

How will you learn?

Hands-on experiential learning with the collaborative support of your peers. Expert advice and instruction on CAD from experienced classroom practitioners.

How long is this course?

1 day/ 6 hours
