Explore how to develop functional website content utilising HTML and CSS. During this two-day residential you’ll learn how to build from scratch, a fully functioning website.


Summary

During this two day residential you’ll learn how to plan and develop a functional website. You’ll explore the technologies that make up the internet and the World Wide Web, develop your understanding of basic HTML and CSS, before delving deeper, into these two building blocks of the World Wide Web.

Across the two days, you’ll develop your own media assets which can be embedded within your functional website. You’ll have the opportunity to hear from a STEM Ambassador working in the web development industry, including the opportunity to ask questions.

Who is it for?

This two day residential is suitable for any secondary teachers planning on, or already delivering web development content in the classroom.

What topics are covered?

  • Technologies available for web development – during this session you’ll explore the technologies, including those emerging technologies now available for web development. You’ll consider the user interaction of these technologies and how they can enhance a user’s journey.
  • Designing a website – considering the technologies from the previous session, you’ll begin designing your own website; working towards a client brief, exploring how these technologies can be embedded to enhance the user journey.
  • Web development software – during this session your Professional Development Leader will demonstrate specific, freely available web development software. You’ll then begin developing your website which you designed in the previous session.
  • Testing and evaluating – during this session you’ll learn how to conduct testing on your website and evaluate how successful your project has been.

Hands-on experiential learning with the collaborative support of your peers. Expert advice and instruction on web development from experienced classroom practitioners.

How long is this course?

This two day course will include approx. 12 hours of CPD. As this is a residential course, meals and overnight accommodation are included for participants for the duration of the course.
