Crocodiles in the Classroom

Imagine a crocodile in the classroom!

What does it look like up close? How does it feel? What sounds does it make? How big will it get? Is it dangerous? How long will it live?

Crocodiles, alligators, snakes, lizards and tortoises. By bringing these reptiles into the classroom, the children benefit by seeing, feeling and experiencing them up close, and learning about their habitats, adaptations, what they eat, what eats them, and how they differ from us.

Any age group is welcomed, and we can tweak our presentation to emphasize many areas of the curriculum.

This is an exciting, informative and entertaining presentation that schools book year after year. It's not just about learning biology, either: the children learn to appreciate the biodiversity of this world, and overcome some of the fears and myths that are too often linked to our reptile friends.

All children will:

1. Know that reptiles lay eggs, have dry scaly skin and are cold-blooded
2. Know that reptiles are crocs, snakes, lizards, and turtles/tortoises
3. Understand what each group of reptiles eat
4. Basic understanding of adaptations
5. Know what each animal feels like, and how they move

Some children will:

1. Know the difference between crocodiles and alligators
2. Know which animals are herbivores, carnivores and omnivores
3. Identify adaptations each animal has for living in its habitat
4. Have a good understanding of various aspects of the biology of each animal

Few children will:

1. Have a greater understanding of the biology of each animal
2. Be able to recall facts about each animal and how that relates to the animals' habitat
