Wonder Workshops Circuits

Wonder Workshops

Build a variety of simple series circuits that include motor or a light bulb. Then use this circuit to create a CD Cruiser Car or a Fan Boat or Paddle boat or Brush Monster. Alternatively, create a tower and use it to flash a morse code signal across a room. Students will use their knowledge to build the circuit remotely then design a boat of car that will use that circuit to move.

They can then race their vehicles to determine best construction and design, time distance calculation and re design their vehicle to improve its perfomance.

This activity can me merged with bridge building so that they construct a bridge which they use to get their vehicle over a canyon.

Expected outcomes

Students will be able to recognise and use electrical componenets to build simple ciruits tohelp them to answer questions about what happens when they try different components, for example, switches, bulbs, buzzers and motors. They should learn how to represent a simple circuit in a diagram using recognised symbols.

They will also become familair with the design and prototyping process, team working, engineering skills and maths (Time distance speed calculations)
