The Gaia spacecraft mission

Do you want to learn from the scientists and engineers involved in one of the most important space missions to be launched this decade?

On the 13 June we kick-off an exciting five day event that takes place over two venues; York and Oxfordshire. Delegates will have the opportunity to take part in a series of practical activities that will include innovative ways of teaching topics such as the electromagnetic spectrum, redshift and measuring distances within the universe. Aimed at secondary and post-16 teachers, we still have places available.

The first part of the course will take place at the Science and Technology Facilities Council Rutherford Appleton Laboratory, Oxfordshire, and will include tours of cutting edge facilities and sessions with the Gaia team from Cambridge University and the Mullard Space Science Laboratory.

The second part of the course will be at the National Science Learning Centre in York. You will have the opportunity to see the National STEM Centre and visit the University of York Astrocampus for an evening of night sky observation.

The cost of accommodation and food is included in the course fee and delegates get the opportunity to stay at the graceful Georgian manor hotel, Milton Hill House.
