Science in the Environment Pack 6: Management of Water Quality

The University of York Science Education Group ensured that all the Science in the Environment packs were organised according to broad environmental themes. Within each pack, a number of specific contexts were used to introduce the science content. In addition, each pack focused on the acquisition of particular skills and introduced broader aspects of science or the environment.

Features of Pack 6
*Contexts: drinking water quality in Malta; control of algal blooms in the North Adriatic; environmental monitoring; geochemical surveying
*Science Content: reversible reactions and equilibrium; population dynamics; analytical chemical techniques; electronic atomic structure
*Skills Emphasised: laboratory practical skills; synthesis of information; environmental modelling
*Broader Dimensions: geographical, social and political dimensions to environmental issues
