Learning to Cook at Shenfield High

In this Teachers TV video, food technology teacher Chris Willingale thinks that learning to cook is essential, encouraging her students to experiment with flavours and enjoy cooking.

In Year Seven, the students take the opportunity to try out different flavours and ingredients for pizzas, whilst Year Eleven are completing their final GCSE assessment and displaying their work. All students learn to talk meaningfully about the food they cook by carrying out sensory testing to evaluate the taste, texture and aroma of the dish, considering how it could then be developed.

At an after school cooking club students, parents, carers, and staff cook together, further demonstrating that passion and commitment is key to success.
