Distance/Time Graphs

This video resource from Teachers TV is presented by Fran and Dave, who demonstrate practical applications of mathematics as they investigate how distance/time graphs can be used to measure sporting fitness.

Graphics demonstrate how the speed at different stages of a journey is calculated. Data, collected from exercising at a gym, is plotted on graphs for comparison. The average speed is then calculated and an analysis of individual performances is done.

Calculations are performed in stages throughout the video, offering a pause point for teachers to hold a freeze frame on screen while students discuss the problem and perform the calculations themselves.
