Vectors
From the Nuffield Foundation, the object of this module is to provide a simple introduction to the idea of a vector. Students need to be familiar with the co-ordinates module before starting this module. The development makes use of a number of simple (vector) grid games.
The resource includes:
* Overview of the cards for the teacher
* Cards 1 and 2: games where two pieces of information (distance and direction) are needed
* Card 3: matrix notation for vectors
* Card 4: free vectors (the module deliberately does not use ‘position vector’)
* Cards 5 and 6: addition, subtraction of vectors, multiplication by a scalar
* Card 7: properties of vectors – essentially co-ordinate free, probably for the more able.
The answers to the questions on the cards are also provided.
