Pupil Led Learning

This Teachers TV programme features a science project which was designed by students to explore their interest in intensive farming techniques.

Students at Saltash.net Community School wanted to learn more about this issue after watching a television documentary on battery chickens. Time was put aside in their science lessons for them to decide what they wanted to learn and how it should be delivered. The students decided to rescue battery hens from a nearby intensive farm and monitor their progress with webcams. The body of work devised by the original students is now used to teach younger students as they come up through the school. As a result of the project, the school has seen a renewed interest in science and GCSE results have improved.
