Craft, Design and Technology in Schools: Some Successful Examples

This resource, published in 1980 looks at how craft, design and technology was being taught in schools and, using case studies as examples, examined what made for successful practice. The roles of teachers, heads of department, technicians and local authorities are examined, highlighting how these roles were fulfilled and the impacts that they had in successful schools.

A useful checklist offers discussion points about the needs of a successful design and technology department:
1. Curricular development: aims and implementation
2. Course content: balance, meeting individual needs, progression
3. Liaison: with other departments and other schools, employers, higher and further education, parents
4. The workshops: housekeeping, safety, ancillary help
5. Professional development: induction, in-service education
