Factors, Multiples and Primes

In the factors, multiples and primes activity students are required to use their knowledge of the properties of numbers to solve a puzzle. There are thirty three sequentially numbered figures to be shared between six teachers. The first has all factors of 36, the second has all prime numbers, the third has all multiples of 5 and so on. Students are asked which teacher gets the most figures, which the least and whether any figures need to be shared between two or more teachers. 

Whodunnit: in this activity, students have to use their knowledge of the properties of number in order to check whether the correct answers have been given. By checking the given answers and spotting errors, students identify who committed the crime, who the victim was and who were the other two suspects, where the crime was committed and when. Students are required to be familiar with multiples, factors, square numbers, triangle numbers, prime numbers, lowest common multiple, highest common factors, lowest common multiple and expressing a number as its prime factors.
