Plankton, plastics and poo: teacher booklet

Plankton, Plastics and Poo for GCSE Science allows students to develop their science skills through learning from a professional research team investigating the impact of microplastics on the marine ecosystem. The scientists from the University of Exeter and Plymouth Marine Laboratory are working to understand one of the most critical environmental issues facing the ocean.

There are an estimated 5.25 trillion pieces of plastic in the ocean's surface waters and these plastic particles could have significant consequences for the marine food web and carbon cycle. Follow the team as they journey out to collect samples in the field, analyse them in the lab and reflect on the importance of science and society.
