GCSE Astronomy Coursework – stellar density

Produced by the Royal Observatory Greenwich and designed for students following the Edexcel GCSE astronomy course, this booklet provides information and instruction on using observations and photographs to estimate the density of stars in the sky. Observations and calculations are made as part of the coursework requirements and guidance on collecting the required data is provided. Marking guidelines used by the examination board are included as well as further links to supporting documents provided by BBC Stargazing and the Met Office. Links to exemplar reports as well as guidance on writing the report are also given. The booklet is aimed at students but teachers may find the marking guidelines and further resources useful.
