Play area
Alexandra Park School developed a Structures project. A STEM Ambassador who was a structural engineer visited at the end of the unit to review their project, tell the students about Structural Engineering as a career, and to give them a deeper understanding of resonance – an important consideration when designing public structures and buildings.
Students worked in small teams with defined roles and developed their ideas for their play areas. Using agreed criteria, they made scale models of their solutions.
Students then presented their ideas and models to the STEM Ambassador, who judged the quality, strength and stability of the model structures and then awarded a prize.
