Electrical manufacturing techniques
A collection of resources for GCSE Design and Technology, that support the teaching of electrical manufacturing techniques.
PCB Board Machining
This video from Boxford shows the process of printing a printed circuit board using a CNC router. It shows the complete process from the initial CAD design through to a fully routed circuit board. Firstly a design for the circuit is created using CAD software. This is then exported as a Gerber file and processed. Next the routing process is simulated prior to machining. The board is then machined, starting with isolation of the copper tracks. Finally the component holes are drilled in the centre of the copper pads. Curriculum links include PCB production and the use of CAD/CAM in electronics and systems and control.
Skillbuilder: Learn to Solder
This video provides a step-by-step guide to soldering.
Reflow Soldering
This video shows a close up view of a circuit board that has its components fixed through flow soldering.
Inside a Huge PCB Factory
This video provides a thorough tour of a PCB factory based in China. The tour takes you through the PCB manufacturing process, from design, to production and testing.
Surface Mount Technology PCB Assembly
This video demonstrates the pick and place process used with electronic components, in a working factory. It provides an overview of the process with a voiceover that explains each stage as it happens.
