Electrochemistry NN509 / A17
Summary
The course is aimed at teachers who are delivering A level chemistry. This one day course will cover aspects of electrochemistry particularly relating to section 5.6 electrode potentials, the electrochemical series, batteries and fuel cells in CCEA A2 2.
The course will include talks and practical elements focusing on evaluating electrochemical potentials, fabrication of a Zn-Cu battery, and a classroom applicable hydrogen fuel cell demonstration.
Outcomes
You will be able to:
- develop your knowledge and understanding relating to cutting edge research in relation to electrochemistry
- understand electrode potentials, the electro chemical series
- be able to understand and demonstrate how a fuel cell uses the energy from the reaction of a fuel with oxygen to generate a voltage
- understand the research on fuel cell and how they use the energy from the reaction of a fuel with oxygen to generate a voltage
- understand the reactions that occur in an alkaline hydrogen-oxygen fuel cell
- be able to discuss the environmental issues associated with cells
