Summary

We are delighted to welcome Helen Wilson to share a wealth of evidence-based strategies and resources from the recent Education Endowment Foundation funded projects, ‘Thinking, Doing, Talking Science’.

The strategies and resources are particularly suited for Key Stage 2-3 transition and focus on the encouragement of pupils’ higher order thinking.
This will include the development of a dedicated discussion slot in science – the ‘Bright Ideas Time’ – and practical science for challenge.

A bit about Helen…

  • A primary science consultant and an Affiliate Lecturer at Oxford Brookes University, having previously been a Principal Lecturer in science education.
  • Helen began her career as a secondary science teacher and then moved into primary teaching.  She went on to lead primary teacher training programmes at Oxford Brookes University.
  • Currently focuses on research into the links between creative, challenging primary science lessons and pupils’ attitudes and attainment.  She jointly led the successful Thinking, Doing, Talking Science projects (2013-18), funded by the Education Endowment Foundation, working with 240 schools and more than 10,000 Year 5 in randomised controlled trials .
