Summary

INSPIRING SCIENCE

Let’s never forget why we came into science teaching. Science is exciting and science is important! Helen Czerski, physicist, oceanographer and broadcaster, delivers our Keynote Speech. Helen has a love for the natural world, and cares deeply about exploring the ideas and challenges around us. She will describe how even the most familiar objects can open the door to the way the universe ticks. She feels that that everyone should be comfortable in playing with that world – exactly what science teachers are trying to achieve.

EFFECTIVE TEACHING

The Education Endowment Foundation (EEF) published a report in 2018 highlighting seven key recommendations for improving science education. Through the Conference there will be optional workshops on the recommendations:

1. Preconceptions

2. Self-regulation

3. Memory

4. Modelling

5. Practical Work

6. Language of Science

THE VENUE

Discovery Park aims to become the premier science park in the UK and is committed to working with education. A visit to Discovery Park is an inspiring experience for young people and the site aims to build a programme of visits that raise aspirations for STEM careers. At the Conference, it will be possible to experience some of the opportunities available to students.
