For teachers or support staff of key stage 3 science, you will focus on the key principles needed to teach science concepts through the use of practical work and stimulating teaching and learning activities.


Summary

This course is for non-scientists starting to deliver key stage 3 science as either a class teacher or in small group support. We will focus on the key principles needed to teach key stage 3 biology, chemistry and physics effectively and explore a range of teaching strategies and practical activities to do this. During the course, you will be able to discuss and refine your understanding of key topics with the support of experienced subject specialists and be able to ask questions to improve your confidence and delivery of the subject.

  • teach key stage 3 science confidently by effectively using a range of teaching strategies to assess students' prior understanding, counter misconceptions and move learning forward
  • clarify and build your own subject knowledge and understanding of core ideas from key stage 3 science
  • integrate practical work into effective learning experiences for students
