The Mars Mission: And Now for the Weather!
This resource provides activities for children aged from 4-11,using the theme of exploring Mars as the context. With a focus on the Martian weather. The activities are:
Children in EYFS will think about different kinds of weather and will learn that Mars can be very windy. Using the story ‘The Wind Blew’ as a stimulus, children investigate materials that will blow in the wind and then make and decorate wind testers.
Using a poem as the starting point 5-7 year olds make anemometers and then use them to measure wind speed.
Older learners use thermometers to measure the temperature of ice and water. They use real data to compare and contrast the climate of Earth and Mars, and then research and prepare a weather report.
This resource is part of the Mission to Mars collection. They has been provided by ESERO-UK to support teachers in learning about the ExoMars Mission.
