Project in Citizenship and Mathematics (PiCaM)

PiCaM is a collection of mathematics curriculum resources designed to develop critical global learning through the teaching and learning of mathematics. The materials provide opportunities to:

  • find out how mathematics can open up spaces for learners to come together

  • make a place for meaningful mathematical inquiry

  • introduce global issues into the mathematics curriculum

  • build the capacity for respectful interaction across cultures within and beyond the classroom

  • delve into the ethical dilemmas of doing and using mathematics

  • explore how mathematics can be used for good or harm.

The materials are designed with 10-12 year olds and their teachers in mind but the resources have been used successfully across a wider age range.

PiCaM is co-funded by the Erasmus+ programme of the European Union.
