Shape up!
In this STEM activity, pupils will develop their knowledge and understanding of 3D shapes. Pupils will have the opportunity to cut out 2D nets for a cube, cylinder and octahedron and fold them into their corresponding 3D shapes. From these models they will count the number of edges, vertices and faces on each shape. This activity could be used as a main activity to develop understanding of the properties of common 3D shapes, or as part of a wider scheme of learning focusing on 2D and 3D shapes and everyday objects. This activity supports the Year 2 Maths curriculum and has been provided by the IET (Institution of Engineering and Technology).
