This course consists of five online sessions, preparatory work for each session, optional self-study modules and a gap task. This is followed by a two day F2F practical sessions.


Summary

This Physics Blended Learning course aims to offer opportunities that will support the delivery of National 4/5, Higher and Advanced Higher Physics. Delegates will be sent science equipment which will be used in the online practical sessions. Online sessions, preparatory work and optional self-study sessions are followed by a gap task. In laboratory sessions in part 2, participants will have hands-on experience of new practical work.

  • confirmation of an offer of a place on the course together with details on enrolment procedures
  • information on ENTHUSE funding and how to apply for such a subsidy
  • a set of terms and conditions which you must meet in order to qualify for an ENTHUSE subsidy

1. Quantum physics intro

2. Wheatstone bridge, internal resistance

3. Potential dividers, BBC micro:bit, capacitor charging

4. Satellites, radio astronomy

5. Projectiles, resistivity. Part 2 F2F:Yound Stem Leader/ STEM ambassador input. Black holes and the evolution of stars.  A showcase of H & AH physics experiments to try.  Simple capacitor experiments. University input : A water droplet microscope.

Participants will be able to:

  • develop strategies for making the teaching of N5 and post-16 physics more engaging,  inspiring and up to date.
  • explore new creative approaches to practical work in N5 and post-16 physics, including N5 assignments
  • describe and model developments in some key areas of contemporary physics relevant to N5 and post-16 learners
