Nutrition and Fitness

This biology and food resource uses the real-life context of the British America’s Cup team INEOS TEAM UK to introduce the topic of nutrition and a balanced diet. There is a short video clip 'Nutrition and fitness Teach with confidence' intended for teachers which introduces the resources and how to use them.

The second video 'Nutrition and Fitness' can be shown to students to introduce the various food groups and their function within the body and why these are important for a balanced diet. This is then extended into looking at how the diet of the crew of the sailing boat is adapted to suit their particular needs in terms of energy requirements.

There are two accompanying differentiated worksheets, with answers, to support the video which allow pupils to look at the different components in a healthy diet, why different components in a healthy diet are needed, and why people of different ages/activity levels need different amounts of energy.
