Solar System Holiday
This resource, from the Royal Observatory Greenwich, is all about helping pupils get to know the solar system.
- There is a lively song and animation in a video telling a tale about Ted (and Plant) as they go on a solar system holiday. The video and animation is suitable for key stage 1.
- There are also a selection of information fact cards, giving pupils a range of information about the planets and the Sun. These are illustrated with the same characters, Ted and Plant, which are aimed at younger children, but the information contained could still be of interest throughout key stage 2.
The video could be used alongside the facts, but they don't have to be – it may be that you choose to see if students can pick out facts for themselves from listening to the song, or maybe the pupils write their own story/song/poem based upon some of the facts.
