Caterpillar Foundation Supports ENTHUSE Partnerships Designed to Promote Teacher Development and Student Engagement in STEM Curriculum

The Caterpillar Foundation, Caterpillar’s philanthropic organization, has awarded STEM Learning funding to create four new ENTHUSE partnerships over the next two years. The partnerships will be based in Leicester, Peterborough, Nottingham and Wimborne, and will reach up to 40 schools. Each partnership funded by the Caterpillar Foundation will support teacher professional development and raise engagement and achievement in STEM subjects, especially those from disadvantaged groups.

“We are excited to join the ENTHUSE Partnerships to help students pursue STEM careers with the right skills and knowledge to thrive,” shares Asha Varghese, president of the Caterpillar Foundation. “We are proud to support teachers who inspire young people to pursue STEM subjects that prepares them for the jobs of tomorrow, and ENTHUSE Partnerships are an effective way to achieve this.”

The Caterpillar Foundation was established in 1952 and aims to build thriving communities by investing in the skills people need to join the modern workforce, and the natural and vital infra structure they rely upon.

ENTHUSE Partnerships, run by STEM Learning through Project ENTHUSE, brings schools and colleges together to work collaboratively to develop an intensive two-year programme that raises aspiration and achievement in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics. Each partnership works with a group of six to ten schools and colleges, providing access to Continuous Professional Development, free resources, immersion in industry or university through teacher placements, STEM Ambassadors and enrichment activities.

Anna Gawthorp, Strategic Partnership Lead at the National STEM Learning Centre, said: “I am delighted to welcome the Caterpillar Foundation to the ENTHUSE Partnerships. Their efforts will help STEM Learning’s mission to change the lives of thousands of young people, nurturing future talent for crucial STEM skills.”

STEM Learning is always looking to work with new partners to improve STEM education in the UK. If you are interested in finding out more, please email employers@stem.org.uk.
