Stem rocks our world NS009 / B22
Summary
Through a range of hands-on practical activities delegates will explore STEM concepts and link these to areas of the Scottish Curriculum for Excellence (CfE). Participants will have the opportunity to explore how these practical activities and concepts can be used to support and develop STEM skills in learners, from early to second level. The course content will explore CfE Experiences and Outcomes from the Planet Earth Organiser, giving delegates the chance to develop skills and expand their knowledge of the big ideas in this area. Participants will be asked to complete a range of supported self-study activities and produce an action plan to take forward ideas from the course. Throughout the course delegates will be able to share ideas for developing activities in their own settings.

Who is it for?
Practitioners at Early/First/Second Level in Scotland who are interested in developing STEM skills in their setting with a focus on Planet Earth.
What topics are covered?
Planet Earth, Earth's materials, Rock Cycle, Outdoor Learning, Soil Science, Fossils
How will you learn?
Learning will take place as a mix of guided activities (live online) allowing you to become familiar with the resources and concepts. You will be supported and encouraged to engage with the course leaders and other delegates.The course incorporates self-study/gap task elements to reinforce and expand the learning. You will be encouraged to share ideas with others throughout the course.

Participants will be able to:
- demonstrate increased confidence in the delivery of practical science, technology and mathematics activities linked to CfE Experiences and Outcomes within STEM contexts
- adapt ideas for use within their own settings and share these with other delegates
- identify opportunities for developing their own practice and produce an action plan for implementation.
Pupils will benefit from:
- increased opportunities for STEM activities
- increased opportunities for practical work.
