Summary

Scratch is a powerful, visual programming environment that provides a great introduction to the world of programming. By snapping blocks together, you can create amazing animations and games which can support learning in computing, whilst using meaningful contexts from across the wider curriculum.

In this course you’ll learn how to navigate the Scratch programming environment, from the basics of how to use sprites, costumes, and backdrops, to how to create animations and games. You will learn how to modify existing content, create your own programmes, and share your creations. You’ll also explore the key programming concepts of sequence, repetition and selection and how to develop support children’s learning of them through Scratch.

Primary teachers who are completely new to using Scratch or who would like to develop their understanding of how to use it in the classroom.

  • An introduction to the Scratch environment and the how to use sprites, costumes, and backdrops.
  • Knowledge of core programming concepts and how best to use them, from sequencing and repetition to selection and variables.
  • Create your own animations and games to test your new skills.

  • Create your own Scratch games and animations.
