Summary

This course is designed to support teachers working together from both feeder primary and secondary schools with effective science progression from key stage 2 to 3.

You will explore the differences between science in primary and secondary schools and discover how to improve curriculum alignment, continuity and coherence for the students.

We will utilise good practice and exemplars that will help teachers plan for even better transition, as well as allowing time for discussions around what works well in their schools, and individual areas of challenge.

Ways to assess student understanding will also be covered, as well as understanding the demands of practical work at different key stages. This course will uncover challenges with vocabulary progression and areas where repetition may commonly occur.

Who is it for?

KS3 science teachers working together with UKS2 teachers from feeder primary schools. Primary science leaders and secondary heads of science may also wish to attend.

This is a two day residential course, fees include meals and accommodation for the duration of the course.

  • Share good practice and challenges from their schools
  • Identify key areas to develop and refine in upper key stage 2 and key stage 3 to support effective learning
  • Explore a range of hands-on activities to support science learning and aid student transfer from primary to secondary
  • Develop plans for implementation of next steps in their school
