Summary

A practical, hands-on session for ITTs and ECTs to cover basic H&S principles, including the following activities:

  • Heating (solids, liquids in tubes and beakers), including evaporation of copper sulphate and chlorophyll from a leaf (handling ethanol).
  • Working with acids - how do we choose a suitable acid/concentration and how we manage the bottles/containers we are provided with in the classroom?  Including use of hazcards and student sheets
  • Planning demos - alkali metals, Van-der Graff generator.  Supplementary RAs from CLEAPSS.
  • Specific Heat capacity - set up and run to show how hot it can get (also highlight resistance in a wire - select low voltage to prevent overheating).

 

Please arrive at 1.00pm for a 1.30pm start.
