Summary

Research suggests that the use of Manipulatives (including counters, interlocking cubes, Cuisenaire rods, algebra tiles and more) can help to build and deepen understanding of mathematical concepts, and can help students with retention, problem solving and reasoning.

This course provides you with hands-on, practical experience of a range of manipulatives that can be used by teachers of mathematics in secondary school. You'll have the opportunity to explore how these objects can embedded in your teaching to deepen understanding within mathematics.

You'll build on the use of manipulatives in primary mathematics to help reveal mathematical structures at secondary level for all students, regardless of prior attainment.
